上海人名字的花头

认识很多上海的男孩女孩，包括土著和新旧移民。他们都有一个共同的特点：10个人里有9个半除了爹妈给的名字以外还有个洋名。今天的这篇博就从这里开始的，不过不是以洋名为主－－这个以后再谈。

S的弟弟新近找了一份不错的工作，让我们给他找个音意具佳的英文名字。于是我祭出法宝：Behind the Name. 挑出三个备选的，结果他小人家都不满意。由此引出跟S的一段对话：

“要不然也找一个以S开头的男生的名字，别人一看就知道你们是姐弟？”
“不好。他是单字的名字，所以你找的那几个都不错。“
”你们家真有趣，姐弟两个，一个是三个字的名字，一个是两个字的名字。”
“这有什么奇怪的？”
“当然奇怪了。不是你们上海人都这样吧？”
“肯定会有别人家也这样。”
“举个例子？”
“倪匡和倪亦舒。他们跟我还有共同点，都写字。”
“～！＃￥％……※×（）＋”

P.S. 后天要见刘嘉玲，本来想问问她有没有个哥哥弟弟什么的也是两个字的名字，结果S很八卦地告诉我她是苏州人。一付自己是正宗上海人地样子，哼。

后小波时代--与沉老师商榷

有一次沉老师做这样的评论：“我还是认为他（带三个表）是王小波之后难得的有趣的现实批判者”。我不同意，“沉老师高看王小峰了。他的文章算的上有趣，或者说好玩，但是基本算不上智慧。而且他比起王小波来还是差得很远，虽然两人的名字很近似。依我看最大的差别是他不具备王小波的理性思辨和逻辑能力－－可能是缺乏第一手西方文化熏陶的结果吧。”沉老师回复的留言说：“三表的确和王小波相比还差很远，王小波已经举重若轻，他还是在用些蛮力的。我的本意并非和小波相提并论，只是小波之后，还能有谁呢？:( ”

幸或不幸，小波基本上生活在前互联网时代，我们这一代的基本是从铅字上读到他的文字的，而他的同辈人很多据说是先看的手抄本或者电脑打印稿。我固执地认为这样的文字比电脑屏幕上的字符能给读者更多思考的可能。

当今大陆中文写者中能及小波某个侧面的倒是有几位。 罗永浩老师在有些地方很像他，比如他的嬉笑怒骂，他的自嘲，甚至他的自外于体制。但是 罗老师时不常用不甚雅致的字眼骂人，暴露了稍逊的文品――小波以及别的写一手真正好文章的大家骂人的时候从来不用脏字，这才是境界；余世存的理性和稳健在现今的作者中颇不多见，缺点是稍嫌严肃，幽默感不足――这一点上他甚至不如和菜头；与小波同名的刘姓作家和对 秋雨 老师的皇帝新装毫不留情予以剥落的本家后生，他们的字里行间也不乏犀利不乏理性思考，可是在有趣上败了一阵――可能这本来也不是他们追求的。况且他们的文字恐怕不去香港的书店或者不通过proxy基本上看不到了，不说也罢；方舟子可以做到纵横捭阖却总是一副俯视众生的态度；中青论坛版主时代的李方也算是木秀于林过，只不过后来没有大的突破――他不能直接读西洋文字是一大无奈的障碍，导致他涉及国外问题的时候总让人感觉力有不逮。

这也是王小峰的死穴：以我与他有限的接触判 断，要让他读英文的成人文学而能引起必要的生理反应（董桥提出的外文阅读能力的考核标准）恐怕有些勉为其难。不过此王与彼王相比差距最大的还是我给沉老师 的留言里提到的理性和逻辑。他以极佳的视角点出了执法中的不公正，可是在以反问的方式送出自以为致命的一记左勾拳的时候却犯了无法穷尽已证实的逻辑错误， 估计没有认真读过Karl Popper。 而他为央视解说员辩护的那篇基本上已经堕落到我是流氓我怕谁的路子上了――由此扯远一点，多年前读非官方钦定的中国现代史，最深的感悟是，二十世纪下半页 执政集团对中国民智戕害最大的，一是丧失基本道德规范，二是使得本就不以理性见长的中土百姓彻底抛弃理性。这后一点在王小峰这样比大多数人都受过更好的教 育也更聪明的人身上竟然也无法幸免，实在让人不能不佩服上法之有力有效。

在精神上最接近小波的恐怕是连岳。该同学起点不高，早年的文章很是简而浅，不过最近的进步倒是值得S这等美女作家暗恋一番。在央视解说员发疯事件之后我看了无数的博客，最终还是觉得连岳在第一时间写的这篇短评最是无着胜有着的一剑封喉。连岳的问题是偶尔暴露学养稍差，比如他对保守主义的理解就很幼稚，恐怕不仅没好好研读托克维尔，也没抽空翻翻撒切尔夫人的自传。

回到题目：后小波时代是谁的江湖？答案同后齐达内时代的法国队谁是领袖：我还没有看出来，所以不知道。象小波这样懂科学又留过洋的人很多，象他这样懂科学又留过洋还读罗素坚信自由主义的就不多了，而在这之上还能做到有趣，手搭凉棚却只落得个四顾无人。

P.S.昨晚在对S“不尊重”之后坐在电脑前写了这篇，结果贴的时候忽然链接中断，完全丢了，估计是她串通歪酷对“不尊重”的惩罚。郁闷之极，夜不能寐，挑灯夜读邱吉尔的HESP，倒是也颇有所得，只是下午上班的时候困不堪言。晚饭后凭记忆再敲一遍，事后读起来本意还在，措辞似乎已经有了很大的不同，无所谓孰优孰劣了。

P.P.S.本文写成之后，S告诉我连岳现在的文风其实根本就是被小波启蒙的，不过这一启蒙发生在小波西去之后。他自己曾有文谈及此事，不过我没有读过。不得不再佩服自己的眼力一下，哈。

风暴

不是说昨夜的暴风骤雨，而是我们的storm in a teacup。

S一向自诩时尚上海美女，可是入夏以来却坚持 出门的时候一定要穿丝袜，号称这样比较体面。我觉得这种打扮不仅不时尚，很土，而且还提醒她夏天这样的装束比较类似某一行从业人员的职业装。甚至上网找了 文献试图说服她，也没有成果，很是郁闷。昨晚这一问题被她提到了对她自由不尊重的高度。于是两人不再讲话，开始各忙各的。

决定再不提此事。以后她尽可以继续体面，我也更有理由看街上那些不土的女生。忽然觉得这分明是女朋友在成全我好色的双眼嘛，实在应该感激才对啊。

P.S. 心里偶尔会有一个小小的声音：亲爱的，幸亏我们第一次见面的时候不是在夏天，呵呵:)

For me, the World Cup is over, as in 1998, and 2002. However this is by far the best game England played in the tournament, so I can't fault their commitment.

Two questions remain to be answered:

One for Sven Goren "the rubbish" Eriksson: why didn't you play Crouch and Rooney together?

One for Sir Alex Ferguson: why is it always Man Utd players that let England down?

i'm not talking about alice in wonderland, but the italy vs. australia game.

a friend texted me seconds after the whistle was blown (i didn't hear the whistle to be honest, it was drowned in the lunatic screaming by the cctv commentator--he actually qualified for everything but a commentator), kind enough to share her excitements. i was playing the fun-spoiler by replying: his comment was rubbish, the penalty was highly debatable.

i obviously succeeded in irritating her, who texted back "i don't care" when i suggested that she might want to check out what the overseas media are saying. interestingly, the international media was less gentle than my judgement on the referee, probably they are not all english and don't bother shooting for understatements. "controversial", "dubiously given", "litigieux', "peu evident", "généreux" sont les mots frequents.

Desole, ma cherie, mais le penalty EST vraiment litigieux et trop genereux.

but england don't deserve to win. in football quality terms, this is a game as bad as you can get. How much more negative can you go, from both sides?

though he scored a good free-kick, david beckham is still rubbish. why the untouchables? when he was already panting as a dog in mid-summer sun, why not giving lennon more minutes?

frank lampard is not only as wasteful as anyone, he's also an extremely selfish bastard: you never get a pass back from him even if you're a million times better positioned. however on two occasions when he should have attempted on goal, he unexplicably delivered wayward passes!

sven goren eriksson does live up to his name of the most conservative manager. what the heck are you doing by taking off joe cole and putting on carra? when rooney could hardly walk, why still leaving him up front alone without giving crouch a running out?

rio ferdinand can go home too. those failed clearances, my god!

though i never rated him as high as robbie, and never thought he was as "red" at heart as robbie or stevie or carra, it is sad to see his world cup dream ending in such a fashion. only when you see him playing on the pitch can you realise how pacey he is. england have been fortunate that he doesn't play for another country.
